Clever Copper
Did you know that the ancients used copper to heal a variety of afflictions? The Egyptians sterilised wounds with copper and believed it made water safe to drink. Boils, eye infections and venereal ulcers were supposed to be alleviated by copper in Persia and India, while the Aztecs used it to treat sore throats. The Romans had derivatives of copper in many of their drugs, using it extensively for medicinal purposes. (Source: Wikipedia)

Big cat's big message

IsI like to consider animals as equals and feel they have an important part to play in our personal and spiritual growth as well as in our eco-system. Take White Lions for example...

Ponder this: White Lions are born naturally only in Timbavaati, next door to the Kruger National Park, although most are bred in canned hunting reserves until we do something to change this. According to local legend they are messengers from the Gods, and only come to Earth in times of great ecological crisis. To add to their mystique one white lioness was born on December 25th in the year 2000 in a place called Bethlehem - the one in South Africa, but still….. They urgently need us to pay attention; do so at www.whitelions.org
Beauty or the Beast?
Sumatran tigers, Javan rhino's and the wonderful orang-utan, all endangered species, are under threat increasingly from our beauty industry. Palm oil, used in products like Dove soap, is harvested from their Indonesian rainforest habitat which is being destroyed faster than any other. Greenpeace have been making their point, dressed as orang-utans, outside Unilever factories in Merseyside and their headquarters in Italy and Holland.

Making a killing from sex?
Aphrodisiacs sell well, so two 19th century rhino horns stolen from a South African museum last week could be used to cash in on this lucrative market. However, if used in this capacity they could be deadly; they're drenched in poison! Source: Planet Ark

Street's London
Could the city you live in be the New Jerusalem? Chris Street, author of The Visionary Landscape, believes London has all the sacred geometric patterns in its landscape to claim this title. Not only does the London landscape generate the most phenomenal star patterns, it also gives birth to a Dove, a Unicorn and a Lion, with the Lion facing due East just like the Egyptian sphinx. Could this really mean that seven million people (including this editor) live in a sacred landscape with a sacred mission? To find out more listen to Chris click here and visit his website here

Ghost writing
'Floating plastic is causing untold damage to sea birds and turtles alike. A recent survey by the RSPB found that many albatross chicks are dying of starvation because the parents are picking up plastic objects thinking them fish and feeding to their offspring. Turtles, who live to be older than many of us humans, are also being fooled by plastic objects like bags they think are jelly fish. They often suffocate or starve through the ingestion of the bags. There is one area of the Pacific ocean that has a floating island of plastic claimed to be as large as the UK. So where does all this plastic come from? It comes from sewage outlets, cruise ships, cargo ships and people on the beach throwing their plastic objects away. So take rubbish home from the beach, save your used postage stamps and send them to Albatross Appeal, RSPB, Sandy Lodge, Bedfordshire, UK or send letters or emails to your water company, cruise ship companies and shipping companies asking them to stop killing our fellow planet inhabitants.
