Clever Copper Woman
The First Woman, according to the creation story from the wonderful elder women of the Nuu-chah-nulth Nation on Vancouver Island BC Canada, was Copper Woman. Fashioned by the Creator out of shells, minerals, dirt, sea water and moss he wrapped her body in skin from his own skin, the colour of copper, and Copper Woman was born. (Source:rahoorkhuit)

Springing into action

There may be fewer women in places of power, but women nonetheless clearly change the course of history. One such woman, Rachel Carson, became a catalyst for the environmental movement through her book Silent Spring. Ray Anderson, founder and CEO of US carpet tile company Interface, cited Silent Spring as his slap in the face, when I saw him at a Be The Change Conference. Interface is now one of the most sustainable companies in the world and Ray has become a sought after speaker on the subject. Be mesmerised by him here
How the other change affects women
According to a recent news item in Planet Ark, it seems that women are potentially more at risk from climate change than men, certainly in poorer countries. Wangari Maathai of Kenya, who won the Nobel Peace prize in 2004 for her work on sustainable development explained that women and children have to suffer the consequences of such things as drought and deforestation, whereas men tend to move away. In a refugee camp in Chad, which she visited while on a mission to Darfur, she discovered that the men made sure the women and girls went to fetch water from outside the camp; the reason being that the women were 'only' raped, rather than killed.
Heart of the family
Happiness Coaching is taking off, and Alexandra Watson is the driving force behind it in the UK. After success in her mainstream career left her with that feeling of 'is this all?, she chose to move in a new direction. Out of Life Coaching came Happiness Coaching, and her book The Happiness System for Women. When I asked her why she focused on women, she explained that women are the centre of the family and if they're unhappy, the rest of the family will follow suit. Do you believe you can generate your own happiness no matter what is happening around you? Listen in here

From Fattidute to Gratitude
To encourage you guys to get interactive and show you how much we value everyone's differing perspectives in CopperStrings one of our 'old-timers' Lisa Pearson, has made an offer. Over the next month she will be bravely recording her progress on one of her own goals in the Journals entitled 'Dance off that Weight for Good & for Bad'. She'll be showing how the concepts behind the Demartini Method can be used to achieve goals like these, and sharing her challenges and successes along the way. Anyone who comments on the journals, or asks questions about them in her 'Fun to be a Mum' or 'Dance of Life' groups, will have their names put in a hat, and the winner will receive a copy of her newly published book 'Getting the Hang of Gratitude'. You never know, you might get inspired to have a go yourself, ready for the summer season! here

Cindy says Aloe
In our very own CopperStrings network you'll find many women (as well as men!) actively finding ways to make a difference. Cindy Eve is developing a social enterprise which can benefit anyone wanting to generate an income, whether they're a stay at home Mum, have a mobility challenge, or haven't yet found their way out of the benefit trap. Using non-toxic and organically harvested aloe vera products made by Forever Living Products, Cindy has turned what most people consider a network marketing business on its head and to the advantage of the disadvantaged. She's training women to give facials from the comfort of their own home. At a rate far lower than most facials, this luxury experience becomes readily accessible. Cindy is also organising micro-loans for those who need that extra bit of help. Find out more here

Belly Up!
Sally Riceman made her transformational comedy debut at our CopperStrings offline evening in London last week. Her passion is transformation and her gift is humour; a fantastic combination. She promotes an alkalising diet, rich in greens, and can tell from your shape whether you're more alkaline than acidic. Even if you've been unfortunate enough to be congratulated on your pregnancy, when the truth was actually a bulging belly, it's unlikely you'll have experienced this while on TV. Sally has turned her embarrassing story into one which had us laughing in the aisles. here

Empath Man's Insight of Week:
A shoulder to cry on doesn't have to be broad - softness and absorbency are also good qualities. Ideally there should be no sudden movement. I think he must have been talking about women!
